The People Behind the Puns

We’re just two people who really, really love a good groan.

PunsLand started out as a side project and turned into something we actually care about. We keep only the puns that feel worth sharing. The rest never make it past the first laugh test.

It started with a shared Google Doc titled “puns that made us spit out our coffee.” Jake started it. Mia added to it. A few months later we had 300 entries and no good reason not to publish them.

PunsLand went live because we couldn’t find a pun site that felt like it was made by people who actually enjoyed words. Most were either spammy listicles or bare-bones archives. We wanted something that felt like a recommendation from a friend — curated, honest, and just a little bit ridiculous.

We cover everything from animal puns to medical puns to the kind of workplace puns that’ll get you a groan in the team meeting. No niche is too small. No pun is too obvious. (The obvious ones are often the best ones, honestly.)

1
Passed the laugh test Every pun goes through a simple screening process: is it funny enough to make someone laugh, groan, or shake their head? If not, back to the pun pile it goes.
2
Quality over quantity. We’d rather publish five great puns than fifty forgettable ones. Slow and steady wins the groaning race.
3
For everyone. Clean enough for the family group chat. Clever enough for the work Slack. We’re not here to offend — just to make your day slightly weirder.

Jake Miller

Founder & Chief Pun Officer

Jake started PunsLand after one too many colleagues told him his jokes were “a bit much.” He took it as a compliment and built a website. His speciality is the slow-burn pun — the kind that takes three seconds to land, then you can’t stop thinking about it.

When he’s not writing puns, Jake is probably reading about the history of language, which he’ll insist is “research.”

Mia Carter

Editor & Head of Wordplay

Mia joined PunsLand because she has a literature degree and, apparently, no regrets. She edits every piece for wit, flow, and maximum groan-potential — if a pun isn’t landing quite right, Mia will find the one word that makes it click.

She’s also the reason the site doesn’t publish anything that requires too much explaining. A pun that needs a footnote, she says, has already lost the plot.
